The Latest from Hilliard Management

Food plots are coming in! This year we planned and planted approximately 50 acres of custom food plots and we’re starting to see the results. The food plots run the range from sunflowers to corn to clover to various type of deer-specific forage beans.

All of our plots are designed as part of an ongoing process to attract, hold, and grow quality wildlife populations.  Roughly half of our plots are ongoing projects with clients. This allows us to build on each year’s successes, which in turn give us the opportunity to make each year better than the last. We like to say our strategies are guided by experience but driven by results.

Below are pictures taken over the past few weeks of sunflower plots at various growth stages. Each field has been rototilled, cultipacked, and planted with a three-row planter. To control weeds we spray plots with a pre-emergent immediately after planting and then follow up a few weeks later with a post-emergent if necessary. In addition we surround many of our plots – especially sunflowers – with electric fence to prevent grazing before the crops are fully established.
