Last year we began working with a client who has created a 200-acre hunting preserve in Greene County. Over the past 15 years he’s almost single handedly created an upland and waterfowl hunter’s dream farm. Like any good hunter, he was also interested in getting an additional perspective on ways to improve his already impressive habitat.
Prescribed burning is an excellent habitat management tool and one that we jointly decided would be beneficial to his land. Once we made the necessary safety and planning preparations it became a waiting game. This time of year is ideal for burning, however, with the 4pm burn ban in effect the window for good weather and ground conditions is narrow. This day the weather happened to be perfect, and below you can see the process in action and the results.
Check back as we update throughout the spring so you can see how quickly the field comes back and the resulting benefits of the prescribed burn.
